Promoting Manufacturing Careers

Educating Our Future Workforce

Are you willing to host a student tour at your facility?

Yes

Are you willing to visit a classroom to talk about manufacturing?

Yes

Not at this time (but try me later)

Not Possible

PHASE IV

The New Haven Manufacturers Association (NHMA) has joined forces with Workforce Alliance, CBIA and the Greater New Haven and Meriden Chambers of Commerce in a continuing project to expose middle and high school students throughout the region to the modern manufacturing workplace and the rewards of jobs in manufacturing.

We now are identifying more companies who will host tours this year. We also make available to teachers, professionals in manufacturing who will visit a class room to talk about manufacturing and career opportunities.  If you participated last year we hope you will do it again. If you did not participate last year we hope that you will this year. Tours are limited to small groups (maximum 15 students plus attending adults) and last about 2 hours.

Purpose

Increase awareness among high school students and teachers of the career opportunities that exist in modern manufacturing

Goals

Give students opportunities to get a first hand understanding of manufacturing jobs and the adult work environment

Expand students’ knowledge of the requirements of different job options in a variety of industries, with special emphasis on student skill sets and interests

Demonstrate the connection and relevance of classroom learning to the world of work

Stimulate students’ knowledge of their career goals, aptitudes and options

We have documented information and suggested formats for both the tour and visit programs which can be provided to you in a package before your event. Students are screened prior to the visit to ensure real interest (our experience so far has been positive).

After you agree to host a tour you will be contacted by Frank Milone from the Workforce Alliance to schedule both an acceptable time and to identify a suitable participating school.  Please provide us with your contact person’s information to facilitate this scheduling.

This is an opportunity to showcase our industry to the future workforce of our region (and indirectly their parents) in an organized, effective and cost efficient way. We hope you will be part of it.
