Michael J. McCarthy is the Assistant Vice President for New Business Development and oversees several program areas including the Center for Capacity Development, a fee-for-service/consulting division of The WorkPlace, Inc. located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Mr. McCarthy is currently under contract to serve as the Director for Connecticut's Manufacturing Cluster Initiative, a program of the Governor’s Council on Competitiveness funded by the State of Connecticut, Department of Economic and Community Development. Prior to this contract, Michael served as the Manager for the Metal Manufacturers’ Education and Training Alliance (METAL), a consortium of Bridgeport based manufacturers engaged in developing workforce solutions to increase productivity as well develop joint business ventures.

Prior to joining The WorkPlace, Michael worked for the City of Bridgeport where he was involved in both economic and community development initiatives. Michael is a frequent presenter and trainer at conferences and seminars on economic and workforce development topics. Michael serves on the Board of Director’s of several non-profit organizations in both New Haven and Bridgeport. Michael holds a Masters of Science in Urban Management from Southern Connecticut State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Albertus Magnus College.
